How does my credit impact buying and selling a house?

Credit impacts your mortgage eligibility, which may influence your ability to buy a home. Typically, the higher your credit score, the more money lenders will extend to you and at better interest rates. You can still buy a home with lower credit, but it can be more expensive as the interest rates you pay on the loan could be higher.

When does pulling your credit affect your credit score?

Checking your credit with Rocket Homes℠ is a soft inquiry and won’t hurt your score. This is different than a hard inquiry that lenders do when you apply for a loan or credit card. This shows up on your credit report, and too many hard inquiries can impact your score.

What credit do I need to get the best loan/rate?

While lenders vary in what score will pre-qualify you and at what interest rate, our sister company, Rocket Mortgage requires a minimum FICO credit score of 620 for a conventional loan and 580 for an FHA loan. A higher credit score will generally help get you better loan terms and a lower interest rate, which will save you money over time.

How does my credit affect my ability to get a mortgage?

Your credit score is one of the many factors that determine if you qualify to get a mortgage and at what interest rates. Lenders look at your credit score, income, debt levels and several other factors when they’re deciding if they will lend you money.

It’s important to understand your credit score and the factors that influence it as you start searching for a home. This will help you understand what you might qualify for and give you time to improve your credit before applying for a mortgage if you need to.

What is a credit score?

A credit score is a number between 300 and 850 that is used to represent a person’s creditworthiness. Typically, the higher the score, the better your chances of qualifying for a loan at a good interest rate.

Your credit report shows specific information about your loans and credit cards, which influences your credit score. You’re able to see both your full credit report and score with Rocket Homes®.
