Most homes for sale in this area are located in places that are reasonably suitable for those who travel by foot; most daily needs are easy to carry out by walking, and plenty of businesses are nearby. Getting around by transit can be challenging in this part of the city as a result of the low service level. Thankfully, house owners have access to about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most homes. On the other hand, cars are a very good medium of transportation in this part of the city. It is a short drive to the closest highway, such as Septima Clark Expressway, from any location in this area, and it is easy to park.
It is usually practical for house buyers in this part of Charleston to do groceries on foot. Moreover, there is often a restaurant or cafe just around the corner, for instance on State Street. It is also a rather short distance to a decent selection of clothing stores. When it comes to education, it is a reasonably short walk to reach both primary and secondary schools from any location in Downtown Charleston. Besides public schools, there are private elementary and secondary schools.
Downtown Charleston offers a relaxed environment and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. It is easy to reach parks from most locations within the community since there are a few of them nearby for residents to check out. The noise levels in this part of the city are also quite low, as the streets tend to be reasonably calm - although there are still several louder sections, especially around one of the railway lines, Septima Clark Expressway or Interstate 26.
Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing about 40% of buildings in Downtown Charleston, while large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and duplexes make up most of the remaining housing stock.
