As you turn north steps start to cover vast ecological space as the hardwoods transition into black ash forests with their diverse grassy and shrubby understory hiding grouse and woodcock, young tamaracks whose stunning fall yellow needles slow your pace, and mattress like peat bogs interlaced with idyllic black spruce transport you through a fairy tale like world. These deep woods transitions, where deer trails become game trails and images of animals nose to tail in winter?s depths are in-escapable, is where you are likely to encounter one of the forests? beast or their tracks. As you near the most northerly and westerly reaches these black spruce shorten and the property opens with an understory of laurel, leatherleaf, and bog cranberry thriving.
