For commercial flights, Riverton Airport is just 30 minutes from Longview Ranch with flights to Denver. Ranked as one of the best outdoor towns in America, Lander is a gateway into the Wind River Mountains and internationally known for rock climbing. Gannett Peak at 13,804 feet is Wyoming’s highest peak. The Wind River Range has over 40 peaks about 13,000 feet, seven of the largest glaciers in the Rocky Mountains and over 1,300 lakes. Sinks Canyon State Park is six miles southwest of town and is one of the best state parks in the country. WILDLIFE The sage covered prairies, foothills and Wind River Mountains, all provide exceptional habitat to a large variety of wildlife. The Lander Valley and Wind River Mountains have large populations of elk, mule and whitetail deer, moose, bears, antelope, big horn sheep, upland birds and water fowl. Sage grouse, blue grouse, Sharp-tail grouse, Hungarian partridge, chukar, ducks, geese and pheasant all thrive in the area. On the ranch there are regularly whitetail and mule deer, pheasants, hawks, meadowlarks, sandhill cranes, owls, and even the occasional elk. The area is world renowned for its blue-ribbon trout fishing in rivers, lakes and streams. About 20 minutes south of Longview Ranch is the Popo Agie River. Brown trout comprise over 95% of the trout in this fishery, though mountain whitefish are also common. Recent surveys showed the stream held over 1,300 trout per mile. Like most stream fisheries, the majority of trout are less than 12 inches long but there are plenty of fish bigger than 16 inches or better to hold your interest.
