About This Home

Welcome to your very own private 'resort' hidden at the end of the road in secluded (but accessible) Chaos Canyon. The structures on the property are built like a fortress (steel roof, split-face block and steel frame structures with interior real plaster walls) atop and into the side of a Rhyolite rock hill that had to be blasted-out with dynamite to excavate for the structures. The property is where simple Old-World Mediterranean accents meet with New-World modern sophistication. The structures on the property are built on a radius of about 100 feet, and the main residence is a curved arc of about 100 feet in length. The long and lighted rustic driveway greets you with rising Rhyolite rock walls on either side, setting the tone for this solid and bright contemporary property that sits on ~6 acres. Enjoy privacy you've never dreamt of owning, where no additional lots can be parceled or built on to the immediate north, south, east, or west as the land is sandwiched between Saguaro National Forest and the Tucson Mountains range. There's no HOA to bother you (although there are neighborhood covenants with two other properties to protect you so you can have peace at your own private getaway). Built in 1997/1998, the property has undergone a very extensive remodel (lasting almost two years while the owners lived out of state) of systems and finishes without anyone fully living in it until mid-November 2023. (The guest house was briefly occupied in January of 2022 at the beginning of the remodel project.) The property offers 4 bedrooms and 4 baths and has approximately 4450 SF of total living space, a 311 SF covered patio off the main kitchen with a wood burning fireplace and with 150-year-old reclaimed oak timbers from a barn in Montana, a 676 SF garage with space for a shop, and some storage in a tank enclosure. A brand-new industrial misting system was installed in 2023 to cool the patio. Other buildings include a block enclosed pool equipment room and a large block structure that encloses the 2500-gallon water tank that buffers you from any variations with the water utility. There are 6 AC units on this property: 2 split units (Lenox), 1 package unit (Trane), and 3 mini splits (Mitsubishi in living areas and Fedders in garage) used for rapid cooling in specific areas including the master bedroom: to give it a good 65 degrees chill for sleeping at night without cooling the entire house that low at night. All of the living area AC units (5) were replaced with brand new top-of-the-line Lenox, Trane, and Mitsubishi systems in November of 2023 and are warranted. The property captivates ruggedness of materials offset with elegant refinement and the very essence of Arizona as the American Southwest, having stunning views of the saguaro-forested desert and the mountains towering above it to the south and the west, and views of city lights and U of A to the east at night, and an outdoor fireplace and two interior fireplaces all that can burn wood or gas. There are no homes in your views to the south and only one in view to the west in the distance. The views eastward include some homes quite a distance off (about ½ mile) from this beautifully appointed "resort" like property that contains stunningly landscaping in its own right, including extensive custom outdoor lighting, many Mesquite, Palo Verde, and other trees (Texas Laurel, palms, olive, etc.) and shrubs (rosemary, jojoba, etc.) combined with elegant cacti bisected with stone pathways and rusted steel railings. Outdoor sitting areas are almost everywhere amidst the landscaping and as well on porches and around the very large swimming pool. All but the front landscaped yards are included with rock and metal & cable fences and gates. The pool shape and location, and the main structures and their interiors on this property were uniquely designed by award-winning architect Rob Paulus on a radius (see bird's eye aerial views) and it has been featured in design magazines and a popular music artist filled a music video at the property. There are industrial concrete floors throughout with the exception of the bedrooms in the main house. During the remodel all carpeting was removed from all living spaces and was replaced with 40"x40" porcelain "white concrete" tiles in the bedrooms to give them a softer, lighter, and clean feel. The four interior showers and baths are all done in natural quartzite stone and marble pebble, and the bathroom, guest house, and laundry counters are limestone, whereas the kitchen counters are Caesarstone for durability, with accents of limestone on the sills. The laundry room features a large limestone counter for folding clothes. All windows frames, and exterior doors and frames, are completely custom and one of a kind welded steel. The windows are double pane. The property has ample storage spaces, including extensive cabinetry and customized storage racks in the garage. The property was purchased in November 2021 and then completely remediated and remodeled (actively from January 2022) through to about November 2023 and was not lived fully in until mid-November 2023. The goal of the remodel was to remediate issues, update, and remodel it with a simple and understated elegance with contrasting materials that form a muted canvass for any particular decorative designs. In addition to the above, the remodel included, but was not limited to, an all new appliance package exceeding $60K that includes a chef's dream kitchen that is huge (~400 SF), and has a massive (~ 9 ft x 5 ft) waterfall island, including: Bluestar professional 48" open burner range with up to 22KBTU burners that go down to a simmer and that can be quickly changed to also have a grill or griddle as the need arises, and with French oven doors (two gas ovens) for ease of access (Iron Chef Michael Simon, for example, has a Bluestar range in his home kitchen; 48" Bluestar stainless hood and with a 1400 CFM external blower to evacuate cooking smells rapidly and quietly;m42" True Manufacturing professional refrigerator; Gaggenau speed oven; Miele Futura dishwasher; 24" lighted Zephyr wine cooler (these get rated consistently better than Sub-Zero); 18" KitchenAid trash compactor; 42" Franke stainless steel sink (main kitchen) with a Franke ¾HP garbage disposal having a Grohe industrial faucet and a RO faucet for perfectly pure coffee or drinking water; 19" round Franke prep sink (main) with a ½ HP Badger disposal and Grohe faucet; Built-in (and gas plumbed) 44" TEC 60KBTU infrared grill in the outdoor kitchen area just off the kitchen; (there's also a stone planter for herbs outside the kitchen); New oversized Electrolux washer and dryer; Wolf cooktop in Guest House ("GH") kitchenette; Sub Zero 24" refrigerator in GH; Frigidaire over the range microwave in GH; 24" Kraus stainless steel sink with Grohe faucet and disposal in GH; New LG washer and dryer in GH; New tankless water heaters (Main and GH). The remediation and remodel also includes, but is not limited to, new custom wood and other cabinets throughout from Anything Wood supplying ample storage; all new plumbing fixtures (Grohe, Franke, Toto, etc.); all Lutron electrical devices, Lutron Smart Devices for critical controls, and all new LED lighting, including a 90' monorail "art gallery" lighting fixture that goes down the elegantly curved "gallery hallway," and Italian Beluga leaded crystal spot lights for art in the entry and master; there is a brand new 400A electrical panel that is solar ready; all new interior, solid core and frosted glass doors and new hardware; new closets (California Closets); new countertops as per above; Robern lighted cabinets and mirror in the master bath, a freestanding solid-cast soaking tub, dual Italian sinks, and a shower that has one side as a window looking out to beautiful landscapes to the south; real plaster walls; brand new garage overhead doors plated with steel and sealed to prevent insects and critters; new floating steel steps on a center spine; 150-year-old reclaimed barn wood dining table mounted on a concrete pillar in the dining room; high speed internet available from NGX or Starlink; WiFi controlled irrigation controller; and constant water pressure via a pump set to 90 PSI and that delivers 70PSI to the houses and 80 PSI to the irrigation system; a state of the art whole-house and multistage water treatment system with softener, carbon and UV purification and sediment filtered down to 1 micron; roofs inspection & repairs; window pane replacements; electrical inspections & repairs; plumbing inspections & repairs; living spaces are sealed on the perimeter and all windows and doors sealed with industrial seals; exterior doors have automatic door bottoms to insure good threshold seal; new screens; 3 new Ecobee smart thermostats (2021); two 2GIG security system panels with Honeywell devices and 13 perimeter exterior cameras (negotiable) to watch the wildlife and check in on your private "resort" while you're away. The pool plaster and tile was completely chipped out and replaced with Pebbletech finish in 2022 with upgraded tiles and LED lighting, and all pool equipment was replaced with the exception of the heater that is still in good working condition. The Guest House is fully self-sufficient for temporary or long-term guests, and fully remodeled to the same level as the main house and has a large ¾ bathroom with an elongated WhiteHaus sloped sink, laundry, fireplace, and a kitchenette.mA Japanese Zen garden graces the west-northwest side of the property with a Japanese soaking tub and heated outdoor shower with private sitting area. The garage and its workshop area was also remodeled and has new custom polyaspartic floors and 10 LED 2x4 foot panel fixtures for a very bright garage (color temperature and dimming adjustable).
